Da Sweet Spot by Bling Bling Maui- an Amazing Shaved Ice Spot in Maui

Recently, I went to Maui, Hawaii, and I absolutely loved it. From the food to the beaches, it was amazing and I am waiting for my next chance to go back. One of the amazing foods I tried there was this small place called Da Sweet Spot by Bling Bling Maui. They serve Chinese baobing, which is the dessert that started the whole company. It’s a Chinese/ Taiwanese shaved ice dish that is usually topped with fruits, red bean, and condensed milk. They serve a soft serve, which comes in a pineapple flavor and a vanilla one (I’m pretty sure the pineapple one is Dole Whip). They also serve a hapa, which is the one that I got. It’s a half-Chinese, half-Hawaiian dish that has a soft serve in the middle with shaved ice all around it and has toppings around it, drizzled in condensed milk. Don’t worry, if you’re dairy-free, they have options for you too!

First things first, this is located in Kihei, Hawaii, and it’s in the South Maui Gardens, which is a food truck park of sorts, with a variety of trucks, from tacos to fried chicken. The only thing I got from there was this shaved ice, because it really is filling, especially if you aren’t sharing it with many people.

I wanted a hapa, which is the half/half one because I feel like with this one, you kind of get the best of both worlds. However, this one isn’t customizable. They have preset orders and you just pick one, but they only have one dairy-free one, so keep that in mind. You can check out their website to see the full list of hapas they offer, but the one I got was the Vegan Lava Flow.

The Vegan Lava Flow is delicious. Because it’s vegan, it comes with the pineapple soft serve, which tastes like the kind of Dole Whip you would get from Disney parks. It’s so scrumptious paired with the shaved ice, which has strawberry and coconut syrup drizzled on it. Usually, I’m not a huge coconut person, but even I liked this one. It had strawberries and popping boba, which is a really nice texture combination. On the website, that’s all the toppings that are listed, but mine also came with mochi as well, which was one of my favorite parts of the whole thing. It also came with vegan condensed milk, which is made from coconut cream. Again, I don’t love strong coconut flavors, but this was perfect with the Dole Whip. There was also a really cute flower on top of the shaved ice. I didn’t know if it was edible or not, so I asked the workers, and yes, it is edible. It’s printed with edible inks over rice paper, so it doesn’t really have a taste to it, it’s just fun to look at.

It was $13 for one of these, which is the price of their ‘shareable’ baobing, so I’m assuming this size was their sharable size as well. I think for the amount of food you get, that’s a really good deal. It’s literally at least the size of my head, and with the quantity, the quality does NOT go down.

Everything about this place is so cute! The aesthetic of the shop nestled into a little corner of the food truck park, paired with the actual pink and white shaved ice treat, it’s amazing for all of your senses. I definitely recommend if you’re ever nearby craving some shaved ice after a long day at the beach!
